THE FATES ARE WORKING AGAINST ME! Just when I decide to start throwing things out - there's a reason to hang on to everything..JUST IN CASE!! I've been "contemplating" throwing out an old bucket of dry red beans - circa 1979 - that have sat out in my garage all these years. Also, I collect old canning rings (and I should), but also, old used canning lids that cannot be reused. Hmm - I really should throw out the lids. Then there is the craft drawer of handmade pig heads and pig butts that I made when we lived in New York (about 15 years ago!). They were a novelty I made back then to sell around Christmas time, to make some Christmas money. But I haven't made them since then. I actually thought about throwing it all out 3 DAYS AGO, when I started cleaning my sewing machine drawers. But I didn't get around to it. THANK HEAVENS! Jude and Calvin came home from school today saying that they "HAD TO" have an item for the "Old Fashioned Bazaar" at their annual Fall Carnival - in 3 days!! Of course, the pressure in on because "your child will receive a special treat" if you contribute to the bazaar. So I whipped out my drawer of pigs, my tin of canning rings and lids, and my bucket of old beans from the garage, and Jude and Calvin and I put these together in no time. SEE! I'VE GOT TO HANG ONTO ALL MY STUFF - I MAY NEED IT SOMEDAY!!!!

LOL--okay, we'll give you this one, but don't you DARE start backsliding just because of one dinky craft fair; Patti could have just as easily dug some junk out of *her* house for this project, so do not hang onto junk just because you fear the kids might need it for school projects! (I'm cheering you on here because I need your inspiration to help ME de-junk my house and let go of the clutter!)
But maybe if you hadn't had these on your mind for dejunking you wouldn't have thought of them for the project and they wouldn't have gotten used. I've found that when I'm in dejunking mode I finally use things I've been hanging onto just because they are in my line of sight.
These Pork and Beans jars are so cute. Now, assemble a bunch of Pork and Beans kits with your leftovers, donate them to some preschool or nursing home, and TOSS THE REST OUT!!!
Mmmm. Maybe you should cook them up for the next ward Chili Cookoff. Mine is coming up on Friday. I dejunked my kids' toy closet. I didn't take a picture, although I should have. I have a TON of recycle stuff I need to take in. That's tomorrow, and I'll be sure to get a couple snapshots of us doing it.
hmmm...I wish I could dejunk. I convince myself I need everything I have. Do I need therapy? I am going to post a picture of my Garage on my blog. Everyone go look at it and make some disghusting remarks so I will feel ashamed and clean it out....ok thanks!lewswpm
I agree with Liz, when you de-junk you find useful stuff. And you know where it is.
We found a kite once in our dejunking, and took it out for the day.
But also, if you DIDN'T have the pork'n'beans (which are very cute), you would have come across something else... which might have gotten rid of something else. I like the idea of simplifying... I got rid of all of Ben's shirts he was saving for a quilt. Once I was sad I didn't have them because I wanted to make a quilt, but I am glad because that is one less thing I have to do (and who needs another blanket?)
BTW I am so proud of you!!! You are inspire me to do the things that are hard for me to do... like hold on to potentially useful things...
